Course:
WOODLAND MANAGEMENT

Oak regeneration in Childer Wood.
|
We will consider the long term needs
of different woodlands and how we might make an income from a way
of working that does not conflict with those needs.
We will discuss different management systems, thinning and restocking,
planting and grants. The course will also explore forest certification
and accreditation.
We will look at ways of formulating management plans and objectives
and ways of implementing them. We will explore the value of environmental,
ecological and archeological audits.
We will examine how we can identify our own skills and how we could
upskill, deciding what areas of work we want to undertake ourselves
and what we might contract out.
We will discuss our legal responsibilities such as appropriate insurance,
risk assessments, implications of public access and of employing
contractors.
